Inspiration Monday: Hot Red

So this Monday I'm finally playing along over at Two Birds! Wahoo, a post two days in a row! Every week Megan and Nora choose a new photo as inspiration and each Monday they do a link-up party and see what everyone comes up with! I've just been lurking until now but I decided it's time a join in. This week's inspiration was the above photo of Ashlee Simpson.

I think her shorts are technically orange, but since I own no orange pants, nor leather pants for that matter.. I decided to go with my red hot paper bag style pants! It came together pretty effortless and chic, which is what I love about Ashlee's ensemble.

Graffiti And A Mullet

A mullet skirt of course! So the mullet/high-low trend is super big right now, as I'm sure you've noticed. Most of the skirts and dresses displaying this trend have been a little short for me but I met my match with this one! I've had it for a few months now and just realized it hasn't been on the blog..

I wanted something light and easy that I could compliment with a few accessories.. Summer makes my outfits slightly less ornate. You might recognize this graffiti-ed train from our Valentine's shoot back in February. It's such a fun location, I had to use it again. Plus, I think the graffiti has actually changed a bit since then so it's not really the same!

( Can't forget the classic cheesy smile :D )

So, this week has been super crazy (as I'm sure you've noticed by the lack of posts..) A lot of people are taking vacations right now so I've had to work extra hours at the bank. I'm not complaining, I could use the money! It's just not so good for my blog. Haha. This week should be back to normal though, so I'll be catching up on everyone's blogs, including my own! Yay!

DIY Shoe Details

So remember my post last week about painting the soles of my heels with nail polish? Well I loved how that turned out SO MUCH that I went a little DIY crazy and transformed a couple other pairs!
Here's the first pair again if you didn't catch it:

I decided I had a pair of sling backs that could use a little color, so using this as a little inspiration I got out my nail polish and brush again and tah-dah! :

After finishing that pair I decided I couldn't be done now, and not that I was bored with the nail polish at all, but I wanted to do something different. I had seen some Mui Mui inspired heels on Pinterest and decided I wanted to give another plain pair of pumps some extra oomph using rhinestones!

It was pretty fun and easy. Here's all the supplies I used:
-A pair of plain pumps
-80 different sized/shaped rhinestones
-super glue
-tweezers

The photo above is the closest I got to a before picture (sorry!) I got a little carried away in my excitement..
So all you do is pick up a rhinestone using the tweezers, drip a little super glue on and stick it to the heel of your shoe. Do whatever random order you want. I didn't really have an exact plan.

And there you go! I love how they turned out! I'm a sucker for anything that sparkles (such a girl). I'm having so much fun revamping the more plain shoes in my closet. No more boring here!

Chambray Ombre

"Chambray Ombre" say that five times fast. I finally got the perfect chambray shirt, courtesy of my Mom who found it while browsing through H&M in Alabama this past week. I tried the H&M around here to no avail, so I was ecstatic when she sent me a photo of this one.

I've pretty much been wearing it ever since. It's so comfy and versatile. I'm excited to mix it with my wardrobe more.
There's a great story to these pants too. They're seven for all mankind's, and I found them on the clearance rack at Downeast! Such a steal! I love the material and how they blend from a periwinkle blue to lavendar.

I felt like the outfit needed a pop of color so I added these fun pink shoes, and I feel like it continues the ombre flow.

The weekend is just around the corner! Finally! I felt like everyday this week was Thursday. The weekend couldn't come fast enough for me! Anyone have fun plans? The Hubs and I are going to see The Dark Knight Rises Saturday. We splurged and got "Dbox" seats, which are basically motion seats. I'm pretty excited.

Painted Soles

While browsing Pinterest a while back (one of my favorite things to do), I came upon this and fell in love with the idea immediately! Using nail polish to paint the soles of some heels needing a little sprucing up? Incredibly smart. If you're interested here's the original tutorial.

All you need is:
-A pair of heels
-Rubbing alcohol
-White polish (to use as primer)
-Your desired color of polish
-Clear coat

It's pretty straightforward. The rubbing alcohol is to prep and clean the soles. Just rub them down good with a cotton ball. Then paint the soles white. You may want to use a bigger brush than what comes with the nail polish or it could take quite a while. Let the white dry, then paint two coats of your color. Last, paint over the whole thing with a clear polish. Let them dry a while (at least half an hour) and you're good to go!

It was so simple and fun! I got so many compliments when I wore them to work. I'm thinking about doing another pair... I love how it transforms a plain pair of pumps into a statement piece.

In other news, I scored this lovely skirt at Ruche's semi-annual sale a couple weeks ago. Did anyone else shop it? I was so excited! By the time I headed over to the site things were a little picked over so I had to order a size down in this skirt but it ended up fitting perfectly! Yay!

Neon and Apples

Happy Friday everyone!! I'm so glad the weekend is finally here! It's also Friday the 13th. Which means, being the scary movie fanatic I am, watching one is a requirement. Just need to figure out which one...
We're also running a glow-in-the-dark 5K tonight! I'm so excited! It sounds promising.

So, I wore this to work the other day. It's pretty much neon. And...I'm wearing yellow. Yes. I know you're shocked. I just couldn't resist this vintage looking zip-up skirt and I figured it was far enough away from my face to avoid washing out my pale skin... Right?

Also, I wore my hair up. Even my bangs! It's so weird looking in the mirror without bangs there. I don't think I like it.

Oh, and that collar is actually a super cute necklace! I saw it at Forever21 and knew it had to be mine. I mean, a peter pan collar you can wear as a necklace?! With any top? Sign me up!!

Does anyone have fun plans for the weekend? Other than tonight, I haven't planned much. But sometimes having no commitments is the best.

Rugged Lace

Ok, I'm going to start by saying sorry for the extensive amount of photos!! There were seriously too many good shots to choose from! (which is rare and awesome). It's funny because the day we took these I felt like none of them were turning out. Time and a little editing worked wonders.

The location for these photos couldn't have worked out more perfectly. We were on the way home from my Nephew's birthday party and I spotted a dirt trail, we went with it!

I loved the contrast of this outfit. It was a little more toned down than what I usually wear. The boots and forest green shawl had kind of a rugged feel but of course, knowing me, I added lace and polka dots to balance it out!

I spotted this top at one of my favorite local boutiques and had to have it! It has everything! A peter pan collar, a faux chest pocket, polka dots, lace, and it's mint! Perfection if you ask me!

I find this pic (above) to be a little Zooey-esque. I don't know... maybe it's just wishful thinking. I absolutely adore/want to be her.

Oh, and thanks everyone for your comments/concern on my last post! My parent's home is unharmed and the fire is contained. Amazingly, only 2 barns burned down and no homes were lost!
