Insp. Monday: Peplum & Sparkles

Slacker me is sitting here posting my Inspiration Monday late, while my family yells at me to come carve pumpkins. And I really do want to carve my pumpkin, so let's make this quick, shall we?!

This week's inspiration is Ashley Madekwe, whom I've admittedly never heard of. I would LOVE to own her top, but since I don't and it's far too cold for that anyway I brought out my ruffly black peplum jacket and left the sparkle to my bow flats!

Oh! And this is my new hair!! A subtle-as-possible melt that my lovely sister did for me! She did an AMAZING job!! I LOVE it. (and I never ever change my hair or do anything risky with it) If you live in Utah County go see Kaity at Ella Bloom in Lindon. She's my talented little sis :)

Outfit Details:
Peplum jacket - Smith's Marketplace (ha!)
Tee shirt - Thrifted
Sheer top - Kohls
Jeans - Nordstrom Rack
Flats - The Children's Place (ha again!)

(those were some sort of embarrassing outfit details. LOL. Yes these are children's shoes, but the girls size 5 fits my size 7.5 feet!!)

Shop 'Til You Drop!

Hey all, I know I mentioned it the other day, but I thought I'd share a few pics from last Saturday's Event. (I'm borrowing these from Awkward Girls, hope you girls don't mind!) I REALLY slacked on taking photos and the one (yes ONE) I did have our waiter take at lunch ended up not including my face....

(Lauren & Madison of Awkward Girls, me & my good friend Katie, Jenny of Modern Modest Beauty & her cute daughter Morgan)

So basically I won a giveaway on Awkward Girls to attend a Girl's Day Out at Fashion Place Mall in celebration of their 40 year anniversary. I got to bring a guest and we all got a gift card, tote bag full of samples and and free lunch! We ate at Red Rock, where I enjoyed a delicious dish of Sweet Potato Cannelloni (which I couldn't pronounce), and then shopped to our heart's content!

This was my first time really meeting any other bloggers in real life and I'd say it was a successful well-spent afternoon! I had a really great time (and it wasn't awkward at all ;) )

P.S. I changed my hair a bit today...can't wait to share it with you all tomorrow!!

Heirloom Coat

Happy Friday!! I'm finally back to my regular outfit posting and it's good to be back! Last week my sweet Hubby surprised me and brought home this great vintage coat for me. His Grandmother died earlier this year (I dedicated a post to her here) and his family was going through some of her stuff when they came across this coat with the tags still attached. Knowing my love for vintage they thought I might like it and..... I LOVE it! It makes it extra special to have something of hers.

I love the pop of the bright orange and the big, oversized collar. It's a bit of an oversized fit all around on me but I think it works. Oversized is a thing right now, right? And it definitely works on a comfort level.

So life has been pretty awesome lately... I have tons of good news to share! First, I landed a full-time job at the bank I work at! I've been wanting to go full-time for a while (why shouldn't I work more when my Hubby's away at work anyway?) Last week a position opened up and I applied. What do you know, the next day they interviewed and hired me!! It all happened so fast!!

I also had the AWESOME opportunity to meet up with Lauren and Madison of Awkward Girls last weekend for Girl's Day Out at Fashion Place Mall. I won a giveaway on their blog and got to bring a friend shopping and to lunch! We also got a gift card and a tote bag full of free samples. It was seriously SO fun and I picked up a few cute items at J.Crew and H&M.

I already mentioned our new collaborative blog, Flock Together a couple posts ago, but I'm totally excited about it so I'll mention it again! We have a dozen girls and we're all going to be swapping clothes (what could be funner?!) and posting what each girl did with the same piece. I'll let you know when my intro post goes up but feel free to check out the other cute girls right now!

Outfit Details:
Coat - Vintage (Ethan's Grandmother's)
Top - Sugarlips via ModBod
Belt - ModBod
Jeans - Lovesick
Scarf & Knee highs - H&M
Boots - Blowfish

VACAY (extreme pic overload)

Ok, so here's my condensed Vacation-photo-post! There's still quite a few pics, but I honestly tried to narrow it down! And I know I promised this would be up yesterday and now it's coming up at 9:00 tonight....but I got called into work early yesterday and haven't had enough time to sort through and edit. Enough rambling, here it is! :

On one of the first days after we arrived in Alabama we visited the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville. They had a ton of HUGE rockets and exhibits to look at. Ethan really enjoyed learning about the fastest plane in the world that reaches speeds around 5-6,000 mph. He's such a kid and a bit of a history buff too.

(We had to get this cheesy astronaut shot)

After the Space Center We headed to the Bridge Street Town Center Mall for some shopping! (This is my loot from the H&M there-except the pants which I got at Target) They also had an Anthro, J. Crew, Sephora, and a few cute boutiques we stopped in. It was a gorgeous, large outdoor mall. My sister, my mom and I shopped til we dropped! Ethan, however, wasn't as excited.

He appreciated this store having a place for the men to sit while they waited endlessly ;)

Later that night we went on a "Ghost Walk" in historic downtown Huntsville. A guide led us around, stopping in front of different antique houses that are believed to be haunted and  telling us the history behind each site. Didn't see any ghosts but we got some pretty creepy pics!

Saturday we drove from my Dad's apartment in Huntsville down to San Destin, Florida and got in some much needed beach time!

Next to Hawaii, the sand and water here are some of the prettiest I've seen! We caught this gorgeous sunset Saturday night.

Sunday morning we headed back to the beach for Brunch after getting our fill of sleeping in - SO relaxing.

We ended up going to Pompano Joe's, which is a seafood place, and NONE of us ordered seafood. Haha! They had a pretty great setup right on the sand with big open windows.

(Ethan with his fresh pineapple juice and my HUGE salad)

After Brunch we headed back to the beach for our last chance to soak up the sun and relieve our landlocked blues. We forgot our sunglasses so we had to stop at a convenience store to buy some. We were very tempted to get these matching 'stache ones! (I also thought these old-school gas pumps were cool)

At one point, Hubby made me into a mermaid (I got quite a few comments from intrigued kids passing by)

We spent our last night in a super cute beach cabin about a mile from the beach in Destin. Ethan and I decided we're having a front porch and rocking chairs when we get old!

?

These last pics are a bit random:
1- We saw this sign on the way to the airport. It says "Go to Church or the Devil will get you" we thought it was pretty funny.
2- While waiting for our very LATE connecting flight on Monday we got a little goofy and decided to pose in these fun windows at the Las Vegas Airport.

Well! That's my last vacation post! Hope you enjoyed it (or at least got through it!) It's back to regular outfit posting for me now! (promise)

Retro Halloween

Hey all! Today I'm over at Flock Together (a new swap-blog I've been invited to contribute to!) We're sharing some past Halloween costumes as well as new inspiration. These photos of me and my little sis are from 1994. This year me and the Hubs are going as a 1950's housewife and milkman! Scandalous, and an excuse to wear vintage! I'm excited. Come check out the other girl's cute ideas!
......And I promise I'll have a full post up tomorrow :)?

Main Street Madison

I'm baaaaccckkk!!
Hope you all had an awesome weekend. I had so much fun on my trip!! Wish I didn't have to come back to real life so soon. I have lots of vacation pics to share but today I thought I'd share the ONLY outfit photos I managed to take while on vacation. Only one outfit, but it's A LOT of photos so it kinda makes up for it. Plus this area is super cute, I loved it.

These photos were taken in Madison, Alabama on main street where all the little old buildings and stores remain intact. It was a picture perfect area with painted brick and railroad tracks passing through the town. We even ate lunch at a classy restaurant across the street that was once the town jail. (pretty cool!)
My cute baby sister joined me for a few photos. She's growing up so fast, I can't believe she's 16!

One of the days we were in Alabama we spent an afternoon shopping at their gorgeous outdoor mall where I discovered these beautiful velvet boots! I'm obsessed with velvet everything lately so I was instantly in love!

I also picked up this hat and sweater there, I've been searching for a floppy wool hat so I was pretty psyched to find this one! I wore it pretty much the whole trip...

Well, that's it for today! I'll put up a vacation post in the next few days so I can share everything we did and all the cool places we visited :) Have a lovely day!

Outfit Details:
Sweater, Hat & Boots - H&M
Skirt & Legging Shorts - Papaya
